Comments from event 11 November:
Freya and Lydia were fab – go girls!! Always a good atmosphere.
Suzie – brilliant night loved all the music and particularly love the old images screened.
Although I m definitely a Northern girl, it is good to have Motown as well for those not too familiar wit Northern Soul, however a full hour of Motown was too much for me, as I don’t dance to it.. But it gave me a good chance to cool down ready for the next Northern spot.
Mike - Enjoyed the night, as I did your last event, love the venue.
Nice to hear some Motown, very enjoyable night.
Madeleine – good venue, great music, drink prices very reasonable, enjoyed the graphics, some DJs played the music too loud.
Nice to see two young females DJing definitely something that should be encouraged.
An excellent night.
Congratulations all .Neal , the pa and sound quality was 2nd to none -one of the best, if not the best I've ever DJ'd on. It was particularly nice to take a guest DJ spot which I really enjoyed , I have some interesting stories to tell from the constant 'what was that record you played' , including a house DJ who couldn't believe his ears when he heard the Majestics and now wants to use it for a house sample!!! I couldn't have posssibly imagined even in my wildest dreams that 4 years ago when I had the idea, called it YKSoul /spoke to Nick and we did our 1st event at the City Screen for Teenage Cancer (with Tony Hatfield as guest) raising I think £400 , that you would become the biggest and best soul charity promoters and have now raised almost over £33,000 -all for charity and taken yksoul from strength to strength . You should, rightly so, be very proud of what you achieved last nite. Andy

Just a quickie to thank everyone who came out en masse to support the DEBRA charity in York. Hats off to all the promoters who did a top job of promoting the dayer - the whole event was well run from beginning to end and they made shed loads of cash to boot. The DJs provided some awesome entertainment and I had a 'triffic time. Jo
Great all-dayer Jo it was the last minute decision but well worth the trip. Great Twinky Dinky records throughout the day, different crowd of people I normally see, the floor packed all night, I see Russ signing autographs and shaking hands with the punters, also it was nice to see Soul Source faces Richy, Jamie, Lagerlout, little confused lads why were you wearing ladies undoes? Looking forward to the next one, Billy.
Just to say what a fantastic day the All Dayer was on the 23rd July .I spent most if my time in the smaller rare 60s room, but did walk round everywhere a few times; everyone seemed to have a superb time (I haven't spoken to anybody who did not enjoy it immensely. (When you needed some Timothy Taylor's beer (pure nectar)! the pub over the road were playing Northern, Crossover and modern, CDs - big shout to Helene the Landlady. I also achieved a lifelong ambition and had my photo taken with Sue Warwick and some guy called Russ Winstanley (only joking the man walks on water in my eyes)! GREAT DAY, GREAT RESULT FOR CHARITY, NO BOTHER AT ALL ONCE AGAIN WELL DONE TO ALL INVOLVED AT YKSOUL. Tony Coleby
Well done lads another good soul event, Kenneth Wallis.

York All Dayer Sat 23 July-BIG THANKS from Martint (London)
Well done Andy, all the feedback I've seen on this has been tremendous, Martin
Soul in the city London - first Wednesday of every 3rd with guest Jo Wallace. All welcome!
Just want to say a big thank-you to the invite from the YKSoul crew. It was an organised, well-run event fir a very worthy cause and you should all be very proud. It was an honour for us to open the proceedings at 2:00 in the Main Room (though I run it fairly close with setting off late)! An unexpected bonus of getting another 45 mins due to other people delayed meant we had while 3:30! I must admit even that went quickly and didn't want to come off. I'll post up my plays, not in any order as usual, and I'm sure Rich will follow suit when he surfaces!
* Eddie Foster - I Never Knew - IN

* Soul Bros Inc - Pyramid - Golden Eye
We decided to play some up-tempo classics to start with. I always feel that long events take some time to get going, so Me & Rich decided to get the party started and get people dancing from the off. It worked out pretty well. Jamie.
Congratulations to all involved with yesterdays all-dayer in York. Great venue, superb line-up of DJs, brilliant atmosphere and music - and lots of money raised for such a good cause. Keep up the good work. KTF. Yvonne from Knaresborough (Sunday 24 July 2005)

How can you book YKSoul DJs ? Kurt (Scarborough) Just email Andy andybellwood@hotmail.com with date and details and he'll sort out with Nick and Steve. If billed as YKSoul DJs all they ask is that any fee is donated to a recognised charity , which they will then try and match via 'Partners in Giving'.
I've supported all your events since the first ones at The City Screen for Teenage Cancer Trust. They just get better and better. Keep it up your doing a brilliant job. Jo
St Johns was incredible. It was the best night of Northern Soul I've been to in ages. I never stopped dancing. Carl
Nick, Steve and Andy. We love the music and it’s all for charity. Well done. Caz
YKSoul charity soul nights have fantastic soul clips and graphics projected onto screens behind the stage. Could you please let me know which company provides these for your events? Terry T.
The graphics and archive soul film are very much part of the success of YKSoul's charity fund raising and branding. We have expertise to support us with the design and presentation. As far as we know this is not available commercially.
Are Andy, Nick and Steve DJing anywhere else soon? Johno As a non YKSoul DJ Steve is a resident at the Groves - details on site. Nick and Andy are playing the Brighton All dayer on Easter Sunday (see 'news' and SoulVille at The Baby Jupiter, Leeds on the first Friday in either May or June). As soon as details are known we'll add to the site. They’re also playing at the Northern Soul event of the year -Whitby Soul Weekender in July-details on site.
Your Northern Soul events are second to none, so professional yet so welcoming and everyone is so friendly. When is the next one ? Harry from Fulford Check out the YKsoul website under Forthcoming YKSoul events .The next one is our massive charity All-dayer at the Moat House Hotel on 23 July. There’s also some other good soul events organised by others in and around York. Again details are on the website.
Some of the Northern and modern stuff you are now playing is streets ahead of what we hear elsewhere as we can dance to it - keep playing the vinyl. Dave (Strensall)
How can I buy some of the stuff you play? Clive Tyler If you’re asking if we are selling, sorry. However a lot is on CD and can be bought from places like Track Records in York or Jumbo in Leeds. As to vinyl, keep looking on our website links - we already have Pat Brady Records (Leeds), another good one is Sean Chapman Records or Steve Jeffries - smoothsoulinc@ntlworld.com tel 0116 221 6326 . For everything Northern Soul-CDs, new vinyl, DVDs, books, nsoul mag, venues, weekenders, all nighters and so on you can't beat www.goldsoul.co.uk .Regards, Andy
Hi Andy all the best with your alldayer, Steve C (soulaid)
Hi Andrew
Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. Firstly got to say what an awesome day staff, venue, hotel and company were all truly unbelievable. Had a cracking all round day. It really put my faith back in Northern Soul. NO POLITICS. People actually go there to have a good time rather tahn moan all day. So back to what I was saying thanks again for making us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Won't be able to make your next date as it is the same night as our doo at Salwick unfortunately, but keep us informed because we would like to make the trip over again.
C ya all soon, Geoff & Sue Claxton |
